Instructions

  • Make all the participants move in the space (15-30 min) In this activity, instead of making a single huge group, divide the participants into groups of three people. If the number of participants cannot be divided into three, the facilitator asks the participants, who are left, to act as external spectators
  • Assign the first guide within the group, who must at the same time:
    • Guide the other two people, who will be led by the palms of their hand (like in Manus: The magic of entrusted power )
    • Move with the whole group in a specific space (which you define when you explain the game), taking care not to clash with other groups
    • When you say ‘MANUS!’, all the guides and groups begin to move
    • When you say ‘CHANGE!’, the leading role is transferred to the second participant in the group of three people. The new guide obtains the role by scrubbing their hands over those of the previous guide. The game resumes when you say ‘MANUS!’
    • When you say ‘CHANGE!’ for the second time, the leading role passes to the third participant of the group
    • you say ‘STOP! RULES CHANGE!’, you reduce the space in which the group has to move – so that it becomes more difficult not to collide with other groups
    • When you say ‘CHANGE AND MANUS!’, the leading role returns to the first guide
    • When you say ‘STOP! RULES CHANGE!’ for the second time, the room should be halved again. At the same time, make the overall atmosphere more competitive, by telling the participants that they will be disqualified if they step outside their imaginary borders
    • The game continues until it becomes impossible to move without colliding
    • In circle, make the participants think about the experience and discuss it all together (15-20min) You can lead the reflection in this way:
    • To raise the hand who preferred Manus (the first game) and who preferred Manus-2
    • Whether someone wants to speak about why they prefer this game to the other one
      • Hat is the difference between the two activities and who has the ‘entrusted power’ in Manus-2
      • Whether there is a ‘dictator’
