Instructions

  • Before starting, prepare two posters: one should be divided into two sections: 1. Lack and 2. Passion/Curiosity; the other should be divided into three sections: 1. Leisure, 2. Individual Interest and Personal Life
  • 3. Collective Interest.
  • Distribute post-its and markers to all participants.
  • Participants are invited to place themselves in a semi-circle facing a board on the wall or in a circle around a board on the floor.
  • Participants are asked to gather thoughts about their desires and needs in their daily lives. They can think of different areas of their lives: family, school, group of friends, neighbourhood, city, state, professional life, etc. The participants are asked to write each of their individual needs or desires on different post-its and formulate them in short sentences (15 min).
  • Now show the poster with the categories ‘Lack ,’ on the one hand, and ‘Passion/Curiosity’ on the other. Participants are invited to share with the group one by one what they wrote and try to place it in the appropriate section of the poster. Both the facilitator and the rest of the group can help to distinguish what is behind each desire; i.e., whether there is a sense of lack, passion, or curiosity about something (20-30 min)
  • Once all the post-its have been placed on the posters, the group is invited to read and reflect on them. Some post-its may contain more than one desire; others could need to be moved to another section and some others might still need to be completed. Participants are encouraged to re-read the desires and see if some of them can be reformulated (10 min)
  • Ask the participants to collectively reformulate their desires and link them according to the proposed pattern, identifying similar characteristics and content. Considering our anti-corruption goal, we propose three characteristics:
    1. 1. desires for pure leisure;
    2. 2. for individual interest and for one’s own life;
    3. 3. for collective interest.
  • They can move the post-its from the first poster to the new one presenting the three categories mentioned above (20 min)
  • They are then invited to discuss and make decisions collectively. If the group realises that some categories are missing, these can be added to the blank poster (20 min)
N.B. It is also possible to modify the three sections provided if they are not adequate to the expressed desires.

DIGITAL TOOLS

  1. Explore online collaborative whiteboard platforms like Miro, Figma, Canva to make the two posters before the meeting.
  2. If you are working online use a video conferencing tool like Zoom, or any other platform that supports online meetings, but also breakout rooms.
  3. During the meeting in order to capture the answers of participants (to write each of their individual needs or wishes) use collaborative tools like Jamboard, Miro, MURAL, which permit each participant to have a dedicated space/page for the individual answers with sticky notes.
